Staff Review: The Small Planet Vegetarian Cookbook
The Small Planet Vegetarian Cookbook
The Small Planet Vegetarian Cookbook introduces ‘small dishes, lots of them, for our small planet’.
Troth Wells, also the author of Global Vegetarian Kitchen , takes her inspiration from Africa , Latin America, Asia and the Middle East. Dishes include; Hearty Lentil Soup, Papaya Curry with Chickpeas, Beans with Turmeric and Coconut Milk, Chili Bean Fajitas, Peppery Potatoes with Eggplant and Corriander Carrots and Potatoes. Desserts and drinks include; Caraway and Ginger Tea, Pack-a –Punch Ginger Beer, Spicy Baked Bananas and Date and Walnut Delights.
I created the following dishes: Lentil and Chickpea Curry, Minted Tomato and Cucumber Salad and Tahini and Yogurt Dip. All dishes were a success and received favourable comments and many yums from my dinner party guests.
I liked that all the recipe’s ingredients were readily available at my local supermarket and the steps were very clear and easy to follow. There is also a code for V=vegan or Va = vegan- adaptable.
Each recipe is accompanied by a photograph and Wells makes suggestions of other dishes that could ‘taste good with’. Apparently The Rum Swizzle with Mint and Lime (p218) ‘Goes well with…everything!’
